The Leiderhosen Film Festival Presents:

Brought to you by filmstripinternational.com . Bless 'em. Music by Jim's Big Ego . (If you have never heard " WTFMFWTFAYT ?!", it's one big steamy radio hostile missile. Scoot those young kids out of the room. Now. Or it'll be stuck in their heads as well.)

Back in My Stall

Longing for some of the vampire bat slippers (etsy.com) Back in the office: 56 emails, 14 voicemails, 2 catastrophes, 11.5 months to go 'till until the next 2 week break. To be scheduled: 1 crying jag. There was not a soul in Starbucks this morning (UC classes don't start until next week) and three people assisted with my order. The fourth on staff (a beautiful tattooed Latino gentleman) who had nothing to do croon "My Guy" along with the piped-in music. Tyra Banks. In the name of all that is holy: Why ? Further proof I should not be responsible to children: 5 & 6 year olds attempt to elope to Afric a. (bbc.com) Matt Smith is tapped to play the next ( 11th !) Doctor Who. What a completely unusual face with very white skin, wide nose bridge, no eyebrows, india ink splotch eyes. He's such an untried actor I am having trouble locating a photo for you. Don't be mistaken, it's interesting beauty and Smith has an utterly lovely neck. (also bbc.com) A...

Bouncing into 2009.

The University closes down for two weeks around the holiday to save on overhead, so I've been enjoying two stunningly fine weeks off. (Today is particularly lovely). Two weeks is about enough time to get fully used to sleeping in. It almost makes up the the pittance paid by UC. Accomplishments: Obama's cross stitch finally has a face and tie. Next shading. A new pair of felted turquoise slippers are in the works as the previous ones have been reduced to shreds by sharp toenails of doom. Most of the house is in order. Cleanliness is the oppressor of creative space. 32 oz of misc. fibers have been spun up. And yes, that's a lot. More notes: Listening to Jane Eyre from Librivox. This version is a solo project read by an American who has put on the toffiest of British accents on the humble protagonist. Unfortunate. This may not reach the conclusion before the Obama project is completed. The death of Helen Burns is always troubling. Rediscovering biscotti. Something about the ...

Bring on 2009.

Well. A very Happy New Year to you, Darling. Thank you for everything. With Love and Best Wishes, Madame L.

Proof that God is in Heaven and my Mum loves me:

Mum brought me my very own birthday cake today: a tiny but very tall confetti sprinkled chocolate buttermilk confection that is to die for . If you are anywhere nearby, stop by and let me feed you a slice slowly. With whole milk. It'll be divine, I promise. Mum and I went to the Asian Art Museum today to see the National Geographic Treasures of Afghanistan Exhibit which was amazing. The second half of the exhibit were the treasures from a set of Tillya Tepe nomadic tombs , five women and one man dating, 1rst century BCE. They must have been some kind of royalty, heavily laden with a wealth of jewelry and ornamentation. As lovely as the pieces were, what would these dangling, joyous, bright, noisy baubles have sounded like when worn by these five Nomadic Afghan princesses were at their best or what the thousands of shiny flaky 24k paliettes looked like in the desert light. Whoever these people were, their tribe loved them enough to send them trouping together into the afterlif...

Monday Thoughts

Crashing headache, all day. Carla is my favorite Top Chef Contestant. Goofy and charming. The curator at Lacis is the most gorgeous creature I've ever met. We talked at length about high relief embroidery. When I pulled out my Obama cross stitch (I needed more color 666), she folded over laughing which made her all the more mouthwatering. Ocean, clean air, smell of cypress and redwoods. The withdrawal is killing me. Anyone who finds cats to be stand-offish needs to witness Shred today. She's following me around like a puppy. The best Dolores cartoon ever . Thanks, Franklin. Now sell me the original. The Satorialist recommended his french doppelganger . Beloved second cousin Nancy has apparently baked me all kinds of snacks for Christmas. I just love tiny, bohemian Nancy. I still have a chunk of her fruitcake in the freezer, soaking up rum in it's own little plastic casket. High octane goodness. I am still reeling from that last post. Yes, I am in fact so thick that it...

A Delayed Reaction

Once upon a time there was an incredibly spoilt and beautiful young man I was madly in love with for the last few years of high school and all of college. After four years it all ended very, very badly. Although I had moved to a wet and depressing state with no friends to speak of, he'd stumble into my developing adult life on occasion. We'd either neck madly (he was very good at that; is there anything more delicious?) or I'd be rude and refuse to lend him the tools to fix his skateboard. Years stretched on. As people with volcanic chemistry mixed with some very harsh feelings, we deliberately kept out of touch. God, moonlighting as a situation comedy writer, then pulled a fast one. This fool and I met up again in the most unlikely and awkward circumstances (he was the person ahead of me in the unemployment line). After chatting about nothing he ended the conversation with an eye opening strange comment that took me off guard, successfully closing an absurd situation by...
