More nudity, more yarn.

Darling Franklin. He has such great ideas . And if you want a good laugh, move onto reading the comments of the woolly and overheated. Miss Violet of the hysterical Lime and Violet podcast may be ready to discard Sideshow Husband for a sexy bald guy with Wollmeise . And if it's Wollmeise, what's not to love? Something breathtaking off of Etsy. I swear I am going to get y'all hooked and make you promise to buy all your Christmas Gifts from craftsy peoples. Okay, One more Etsy item to admire. Who doesn't need sweater taxidermy? This week's " Wait,Wait Don't Tell Me " me was recorded in a downpour in Chicago's Millennium Park. You can hear the splattering on the podcast edition. I felt parched just listening to it.

Screaming Praises Via Email, Sent Mon 9/8/2008 12:23 PM

The following is a ongoing service announcement. Professionally, I am lucky enough to work with a perfectly lovely and extraordinary woman who fails to see the gem she is, so this is an email response I had the pleasure of sending her this morning. I was rather worked up at the moment. To everybody else: don't fucking discount your abilities. You have a moment when you bat one over the fence? Get down and groove with it and make sure you tell yourself how utterly righteous in-the-moment-fabulous you are. Or I will, in fact, come down there. Or send you incendiary emails. ----------------------- To Miss S___.: From M. Leiderhosen. Sent Mon 9/8/2008 12:23 PM Well, for Great Holy Pete... For the millionth time, S____: You are not a peon! You are merely underpaid and with any luck, that will be fixed soon. Will you please please please stand up and put on the damn tiara you DESERVE. People STATE-WIDE professionally admire and appreciate your efforts. You are doing a fantastic job (a...

Today was a particularly trying day at Special Olympics cross-country practice. It should be a lesson in cultivating patience, but I fail a great deal more than I succeed. The commute home from the South Bay wasn't pleasant either. I walked in the door of Casa del Grant and immediately tripped and fell into an uneasy afternoon nap, despite the heat. I woke up sweaty and confused and proceeded to return the some calls and emails which probably wasn't the best timing. Apologies would begin here if I even knew how and where to start. Somewhere mid-dinner Steven picked an argument which sent me into my closet for a two hour tidy. It's a nice sized closet complete with chair and lamp in there and now I am considering installing a bed and big fuck-off lock. It's my one space that has no yarn, books in residence or spinning equipment; it's also the only place that is all mine. Today has been difficult in a lot of ways; the exact opposite of seven days ago. Steven is now i...

Preliminary Earthquake Report

A four on the Richter Scale . Such fun. Just one firm shake this time, no rolling. State of affairs at the time: Fully dressed this time, I was roasting fresh peaches under the broiler and everything started quivering. The cat hasn't been seen for three hours and she just appeared all puffed out from underneath a hamper. UPDATE: Our Fresh Decorah Import undergoes his first CA shimmy . Nobody freaks, but he did find the quake link on craigslist. I was here for the 1989 Loma Preieta, just prior to following some heartbreak to Washington; the aftershocks lasted for weeks. We were all jumpy as cats.

Sit. Read.

Seriously craving an ikea POÄNG Armchair a nd foot stool. They had two at the beach house. Way major reading comfort. Maybe in orange.

Sea Ranch. This would probably the last establishment you'd expect to find us, because it's got it's own poshy-posh golf course and stables and all the million dollar vacation houses all look the same. BUT it's on Highway 1 on the California Coast and people leave you the hell alone. I like that. But why describe this to you when there are photos? the correct reaction to splendid solitude: to the view out t he front w in dow . our view at sunset Even the food at the Sea Ranch Lodge was exceptional, the wireless was free and the drinks were more than generous. The only downside of this particular squat: Mauve. Lots and lots of bloody evil mauve. After the second dip in my own doublesized Jacuzzi tub (yes, there were two; I had my own marble tiled suite) I got over the whole 1980's decorating theme, although it did bring to mind some persistent Kenny G riffs. It you ever have the opportunity to see the quilted work of The Appliqued Wit of Dorothy Vance (a Berkele...

A Short Happy Life

Yesterday evening I dodged to Palo Alto for dinner with the Amazing Ms. Ordover of Craftlit and Master Aiden. (Divine experience, let me tell you. Should you ever get the opportunity to meet up with a podcaster or blogger whose work you really admire, it's so worth it. ) Somewhere around San Leandro, an Idiot boy on red racing motorcycle with matching helmet surged from the on ramp across four lanes of traffic. And wearing only a t-shirt and jeans rode prolonged wheelies down the commuter lane at sunset on a crowded rush hour. Suddenly all the traffic merged smoothly to right, moving gracefully as far away from this complete dumbass as possible. I have always thought CA drivers to be some of the most ridiculously pigheaded ever, but now have to rethink that. It was beautiful choreography. I sure the remaining days in this asshat's life will be filled with great foolish joy. May he go out on his own and leaves other consciences clean. Sometimes the gene pool is self cleaning....
