The Nation-wide Protest Against California's Proposition 8 San Francisco: Saturday, November 15 10:30 AM at the Civic Center Park . http://jointheimpact.com/ Like Mr. Savage said, you can't be pro-gay and against gay marriage. See you there. Seattle Update : Aw, man... Ed the Tuba guy has passed on. Violently. How awful.

Dan Savage on Proposition 8

Mr. Savage (author of the infamous column Savage Love) was an absolutely crucial factor in The Steven and Leiderhosen Semi-International Alliance of Doom. If you haven't heard his weekly podcast, you can catch it full force here . He has officially cursed all people who supported Proposition 8. I love Dan. I love when Colbert can't manage to hold himself together.

News from Iceland

How cool is this in the news today? 11th century spindle fragment found in Iceland. Alone, this is no big deal; evidence of spinning has been found dating as far back the Upper Paleolith Era 20,000 years ago. (Cursing was invented shortly after spinning.) In fact, if it weren't for sheep with the mental equivalent of stale graham cracker crumbs and spinning, the human race wouldn't have thawed out enough to evolve to type endlessly on these pretty boxes with lights. At any rate the whining about how "wool itches" allows me years worth of time to not knit socks for the unenlightened. Okay, on with this history lesson. If there is a dig going on anywhere on the planet what is unveiled often includes spindle parts . Broken pots, phallic effigies, spindle bits . Much like Casa del Leiderhosen. But this green sandstone spindle is special; it has runes engraved on it, determining rune and written language use in this area and timing...blah, blah, blah. So what does the wr...

Monday Thoughts

I am still totally grooving on a merino/bamboo which spins up into a single that looks like polished stainless steel. It's smooth, bump and vegetation free and does exactly what I need it too. This is good, considering I have 6.75 more ounces to spin up. How cool is this? A Mother Marion Kickwheel . I just bought a print of the previously mentioned Patrick Mobergs 's November 4, 2008 illustration. My dad's hands are trembling more than ever; Mom once again let yet another paternally inheritable health fact drop that some day my hands will also be quaking as violently. I think if you boil us down, our family is pretty mechanically adept. We like the things our hands create. Am I going to have to say goodbye to that? (Note to self: look into the possibility of knitting with toes and peanut butter as a consumable adhesive.) Tattoo number three is officially in the works. Will get it completed and installed before the next birthday. Anyone know a good tattoo artist in the Bay...

View the full slide show at the Daily Beast . Dad did not take my crowing with pleasure very well, but he did bring me strawberries from Gilroy. They were amazing. Mum, on the other hand, was deeply pleased. How those two got together I'll never know. Hadley Freeman (fashion editor for the Guardian.co.uk) is also quite pleased. I love the way she writes .
