11:24 PM & still can't sleep

This is the sound of me banging my head against the desk with pure joy: An Opera Gloves Pattern. How entirely fabulous is that??

Heidi Golightly or tries to

What can I not live without?: Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything . There is just no point in buying the paperback copy as it will live on your counter and see all kinds of battles. Mostly involving chicken stock Oh MAN. Tivo failed to record last weeks "LOST"! Now I won't know who bought the farm, I'll be behind, out of touch. Wah! (Despite this hiccup I am still unswerving in my adoration of Tivo.) - update: crisis over. I down loaded the episode off of itunes, which is a perfectly dismal way to watch anything - To The Rockridge Knitting Group, otherwise known as Jessica: the Liesel Scarf pattern from yummyyarn . (Top notch blog) Adobe Acrobat required, darling. It's an excellent way to attempt lace before jumping into that knitted lace lingerie at White Lies Design . That designer is pure, unfiltered brilliance. Am beginning to worry about funding, werk prospects, Christmas, etc. Trying not to panic and stretch the remaining bank account and credit lin...

"How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?"

I've bought my tickets for the Sound of Music Sing-A-Long , which has been going on in London's North End for years but has now has a spot at SF's Castro Theater. Now I must commence making a costume/play clothes out of the drapes, loudly humming "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" My mother and sister impetuously stopped by for a visit. Heather was deeply charmed by my enormous old cat Shred and I believe the feeling was mutual, as all animals adore Heather. We ate Zack's amazing deep-dish pizza (10 minutes for a table, 30 minute wait for the pizza itself) and then we four scurried to the Crate & Barrel Outlet where a lovely, scratched and dinged dining table was purchased. (It's gonna be scratched & dinged anyway.) After they left, Steven and I had the loveliest shared dinner at Pearl : Lovely Tuna Poke, Bruschetta, Peekytoe crab cakes, Black seared cod (big slippery sensual flakes) with tempura portabella slices and a very satisfying gelato...

Friday with the Aussies as a Gay Man

My Lovely Ones: Dang. You ever type&type&type and write&write&write and then hit one little button and somewhere in the depths of the hardrive all your work is flushed away, never to return? Well, let us say a very long post was in the works and now it ain't no more. Really, the less for you to worry about anyways. The main purpose of this blog is selfish expressive practice; I haven't anything unique to offer, in any realm at all. So does that make this writing or just typing? So here's the previous post in a nutshell: Dinner: Alton Brown's Mighty Duck with chard & balsamic. Turned out just right, using two pans and a steamer. And one of the pans is a cast iron skillet which is best less than scrubby clean. Oh wait. Don't think too hard on that last part. Spent a few hours inadvertantly tripping through downtown SF, where I was mistaken for a short, friendly, gay man by a group of slightly befuddled and really handsome Aussie tourists all cl...

Better than movies, television, flaming mop juggling....

I've just spent an hour with a dozen people and their co mingled 24+ dogs at the Alameda Little Dog Park, no dog exceeding 30 pounds and most well under that, including a tiny pomerainian puppy (that could be weighed in ounces) who romped and tumbled with the whole pack of dogs much larger than her and then took up residence under my chair and barked threats at a few other mutts from the safety of my knees. Absolute delicious joy & maddness. It was wild spectator fun. Furthermore, conversation with complete strangers came perfectly easy where mutual doggage is concerned. How lovely.

Today - and Four entirely sound reasons to go to Rome

Lest I forget Rome: San Crispino Gelato :Via della Panetteria 42 East of the Trevi Fountain (no flashy gelato sign, just a little bronze plaque) Try the house specialty: honey. Or the bitter orange. And the pistachio. But you can't miss the zabione or hazelnut or... Liliana Michilli Via dei Banchi : Vecchi 37A jewelry store of copies in the art preservers' neighborhood. Buy your friends $26 copies of 1906 Cartier cocktail rings or contemporary flashy things. Galleria Borghese (Napoleon's sister's house and where Napoleon went shopping for his little Louvre project)Vatican, schmatican - go see the three life-altering Berninis. The rest of the collection is quite smashing as well. Due to limited entrance, you must have reservations, which you can make online ( http://www.galleriaborghese.it/borghese/en/edefault.htm )Check out the one person elevator. Have a caffe corretto (shot of espresso with a shot of brandy) in the downstairs coffee bar. And in a museum. How civilize...
